Environmental, Health and Safety Performance

Health and safety, as a key to running a successful business, will continue to require management support and necessary capital expenditure. Environmental projects that deliver energy efficiencies will be supported even though the pay-back may be over a longer time-period than other projects.

The following table summarises 2010 targets set for a number of EHS key performance indicators:

  KPI   2010 Target
Health & Safety Lost Time Injuries per 200,000 hours worked   Lost time injury frequency rate of below 1.00 for the year
Lost Days per 200,000 hours worked   Lost time severity rate of below 26.5 for the year
Reporting of near misses and unsafe conditions   Increase the reporting of near misses and unsafe conditions by at least 20% in 2010, to at least 4,000.
Energy Energy consumed (GJ) per £ million of sales   -10% compared to 2009
Greenhouse Gases Tonnes of CO2 equivalent per £million of sales   -10% compared to 2009
Waste Tonnes of waste to landfill per £million of sales   -5% compared to 2009
