Safeguarding the health and safety of employees, contractors, customers and communities and protecting the environment are part of our core values. Our wider vision is to deploy world-class environmental, health and safety (“EHS”) systems and be part of a value chain that is responsible to its stakeholders and is environmentally sustainable. Meeting the legal EHS requirements in every territory where we operate is regarded as the minimum.
Our goals are:
All of our managers are accountable for providing visible leadership and committing adequate resources in all aspects of EHS, led by Charter’s CEO. All of those working for Charter, either directly or on our behalf, are expected to work safely, act responsibly, and not put themselves or others at risk, as formalised in our internal performance management and contractor management frameworks. Competent EHS coordinators at each operating location, backed up by a professional central team, provide support to all our operations.
Externally certified EHS management systems will be adopted at all manufacturing and service locations to ensure that an effective framework for delivering continual improvement is in place. Monthly reports outlining performance and progress on key initiatives will be submitted to Charter’s International and UK Boards. We regard open and frequent communications, training, exchange of best practice and performance reporting as key to enabling our goals and targets to be achieved. Listening to our employees, contractors and other external stakeholders will always be a fundamental aspect of our EHS programmes.
This policy applies to all our operations, worldwide.
